THE VILLAGE IN WINTER

Le Monêtier Les Bains is the highest village in Serre Chevalier and it is from here that you can also reach the highest point in the Serre Chevalier ski area at 2830 metres. At 1500 metres altitude, the village takes on the heavy weight of the snow for most of the winter.

A walk through Le Monêtier Les Bains

Take a stroll around the village and you'll discover 300 year old buildings and a network of narrow canals through which the hot spa water flows - steam rises from them on a cold day.

Chapel Saint Martin and one of the canals which run through the village

Less than one minutes walk from the L'Eglise de l'Assomption (church) is the Chapelle de Saint Pierre which houses the Musée d'Art Sacré (Museum of Sacred Art), and chapels Saint André and Saint Martin with their 15th and 16th century frescos.

Cross the Guisane River and on to the pistes

A short walk to the pistes takes you over Le Grand Pont which crosses the Guisane River. Turn right after the bridge and you'll come across the renowned thermal spa baths which were discovered by the Romans.

Compare the menus of the village's restaurants and you'll find typical mountain cuisine including fondues and raclettes, plus sweet and savoury crêpes and pizzas. For après-ski and late drinks, head to one of the bars, such as Bar L'Alpen.
